While speaking to Sway, Eminem discussed the reason why he never announced the release date of Kamikaze ahead of time and did a surprise release instead. Eminem explained that he did it because it didn’t give people enough time to hate the album before it even came out, similar to what happened with Revival.
“Because I feel like the way the climate is right now, if you give people enough time to again and I’m coming out with in two months, you give people time to say, “man, he better have a song like this or I aint fucking with it. He better not be rapping like this, he better not be rapping about this or I’m not gonna fuck with it. When you go into an album, you’re going to anything with the mindset this going to suck and then even if you kind of don’t feel that way you’re already kind of formed your opinion in front of all your friends and you know what I’m saying? I feel like giving them no warning was the best thing to do just because it doesn’t give people enough time to you know — when the Revival tracklist came down the pipe it was like overwhelming this shit is going to be trash. Nobody really wanted to be wrong about it. A lot of people had already form their opinions.”
